We all have to decide whether to book a holiday, or stay home and watch Netflix, and many of us are choosing to stay home, according to a study conducted by travel agent Shoestring Travel Agency.
In the study, which surveyed 1,000 people across the globe, almost a third (33 per cent) said they would never book a trip in their lifetimes if they had to, while another 27 per cent said they were less likely to book because of the risk of getting sick.
However, some of us might decide to book our holidays in the hope that it will make us feel better.
“It’s a question of how much time you spend at home,” says Shoaib Ali, co-founder of Shoestropping.
“Do you feel like you’re going to get a good night’s sleep?
Do you feel tired?
Do your legs feel tired?”
While many travel agents say it’s easier to book when you are in a holiday zone, Ali is not convinced.
“We see it as being a risk factor in terms of not going to the gym, not going on a diet,” he says.
“It’s very difficult to quantify this but you see people going to gym, going on diet, and then having health issues.”
A survey of 1,001 people in the United States and Europe conducted by Travelocity found that only 26 per cent of respondents were happy with their holiday spending and only 27 per% of respondents had been able to save money in the past year.
It’s also difficult to determine what sort of holiday you will be able to book, because there are so many different types of holiday.
For example, a flight from London to Paris or Brussels could mean spending the entire week there, and a trip from Singapore to Dubai could mean a long holiday in a different city.
“The amount of things you can do is limitless,” says Ali.
“You could be travelling to the Bahamas and there is no limit on the number of days that you can go.”
But, unfortunately, you are still not guaranteed that you will have the best quality of experience.
You are only guaranteed a certain amount of value for money.
